Hutson School Name
The Hutson School is named to honor Phyllis Hutson, Indiana's
first Fellow of the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners
and Educators.
Our Staff
• Faculty members hold undergraduate and graduate
degrees from universities throughout the country.
• Teachers are certified in one or more of these areas:
special education, elementary education, hearing impaired,
gifted/talented education, reading, Orton-Gillingham.
• All teachers and tutors have completed Orton-Gillingham
training in both basic and advanced language under the
guidance of a Fellow in the Academy of Orton-Gillingham
Practicioners and Educators.
• In addition to teaching responsibilities, staff
members are actively involved in professional organizations
and teacher training.
Special Programs
• Art, music, library, physical education, drama and technology
instruction are built into the instructional programming.
• Field trips support and enhance curricular goals.
Outreach
Establishing partnerships with families and sharing re¬sources
with parents, educators , and professionals be¬yond
the school are essential to the Hutson School ex¬perience.
Mission
The Hutson School is a comprehensive day school dedi¬cated
to educating and equipping students with language learning
differences to become competent and confident life long
learners.
The school is designed to provide an environment that
nurtures each child's development, builds upon his/her
individual strengths, and offers remediation in areas of
weakness.
Future of The Hutson School:
The Hutson School can accept approximately 50 students in its current facility.
Future plans include adding additional building space to our current facility
if the need arises. Adding a High School component to our program is under
much consideration and planning.
