The Educational Program
• The Hutson School uses the Orton-Gillingham approach
, which is incorporated into all subject areas.
• The Hutson School faculty provides lessons that are structured,
sequential, and multisensory. The visual, auditory, and
tactile kinesthetic pathways are involved as children are introduced
to new concepts.
• Skills and concepts are taught from the simple to the
complex and from the concrete to the abstract, with review and
practice to show how new information fits in with what has been
previously learned.
• The Hutson School is an energetic and lively campus. Students
are encouraged to move and be actively involved in the learning
• process throughout the school day. Hands-on participation
is an integral part of the program.
• The Hutson School maintains a student-to-teacher
ratio of 6:1 . This provides for highly individualized instruction.
• Students receive direct tutoring in Orton-Gillingham
four days a week.
• The Hutson School provides a complete and enriched academic
program that complies with Indiana's Academic Standards.
