Learning Disabilities Defined

A learning disability is a disorder that affects a persons ability to either interpret what they see and hear, or to link information from different parts of the brain.

A learning disability can show up as:

  • difficulties with spoken language (difficulites with naming and labeling objects, conversations that "make sense)
  • difficulties with written language (writing sentences, paragraphs, stories, spelling)
  • organizational difficulties
  • coordination
  • self control
  • attention

In addition to the above, in a school environment a learning disability can impede learning to read,write,spell, or do math
